Energy Group Current aims are to: Research energy use in our area leading to measurement of improvements; educate, advise and help with personal actions to conserve energy; advise on home generation from renewables and new low carbon ways of heating homes; lobby those with more power to influence positive change in our use of energy. Research community use of renewables with a view to working towards local self sufficiency. When you switch domestic supply, you'll go on the New Energy tariff, which is only partly sourced from renewable energy. However, unlike any other national electricity supplier, Ecotricity only generates renewable energy so that every penny you spend with them is invested in new wind energy. View the Ecotricity progress report for 2007 , or download here http://www.ecotricity.co.uk/about/our-progress/report-2007.pdf ) which explains how much the company spent last year building new sources of green energy. Ecotricity promise that their New Energy tariff (phone 08000 362100 free for details) will always match the standard price of the regional supplier, so for many people switching will be price neutral. If you want your electricity use matched against 100% green energy generation, ask to be put on Ecotricity's New Energy Plus tariff using the freephone number below. |

For everyone who signs up for green electricity using the link above or quoting CCA1 on the phone or switch form, Ecotricity will give a £15 contribution to our Community Renewable Fund. With over 5,000 homes in the town, there's no reason why we can't get 500, or 1,000 to switch. You don't even need to live in Crediton to help build the fund. Local Businesses can also switch by obtaining an individual quotation based on past electricity consumption from Ecotricity's freephone number 08000 326100. Quoting CCA2 will generate a £40 Ecotricity donation towards the renewable energy fund. |

Top tips to help you fight climate change
Can all our small actions add up to make a difference? Of course they can.......if enough of us do them. Get started with our top tips below. Or download our full list of 60 top tips here .
| Here are our top tips: | |
| Change a light bulb | Replacing one regular light bulb with a low energy one will save 68kg of CO 2 per year and save you £9. |
| Drive less | Walk, bike, carpool or take public transport more often. You'll save half a kg of CO 2 for every mile you don't drive. Road transport accounts for 51% of all carbon dioxide emissions from Devon - a total of 2 million tonnes of climate damaging CO 2. |
| Recycle more | You can save 1,000 kg of CO 2 per year by recycling just half of your household waste. |
| Check your tyres | Keeping your tyres inflated properly can improve petrol consumption by more than 3%. Four litres of petrol saved keeps 10 kg of carbon out of the atmosphere. |
| Use less hot water | It takes a lot of energy to heat hot water. Use less by taking a shower instead of a bath and by setting the washing machine to 30 o C. Only boil as much water as you need in your kettle (but remember to cover the element). |
| Avoid products with lots of packaging | The big supermarkets are still using way too much unnecessary packaging. Buying from local traders is kinder to the environment and supports the local economy. Most of Crediton's traders are about to stop handing out free plastic bags - so take your own shopping bag instead. |
| Turn down your central heating | Moving your thermostat down 1 o C in winter could cut your heating bills by up to 10 per cent and save you around £40 per year. Insulating your loft to the recommended depth of 270mm will save you energy and money. |
| Use rechargeable batteries | It take 80 times more energy to produce a battery than the battery itself contains. Use rechargeables instead. You can recycle used batteries by putting them in your black recyclables box. |
| Turn off electronic appliances | An average house has 12 items on standby - track them down and turn them off. Take the telly off standby - 20kg of carbon saved in a single year. Stereo off standby - 66kg of carbon saved. DVD off standby - 44kg of carbon saved. |
